Wakefields Generated by a Tightly Focused Laser Beam

چکیده
Wakefields generated by a tightly focused laser beam (w0 λp ≡ 2πc/ωp) are characterized by a region of total electron cavitation near the head of the laser pulse, followed by a highly localized region of high electron density. The accelerating field maximizes at a spot size significantly less than λp. The focusing fields are generally larger than the accelerating field, and exhibit complex phasing detrimental for accelerator applications. Modeling of these wakefields is facilitated by the ponderomotive guiding center algorithm [1].

Direct generation of optical bottle beams from a tightly focused end-pumped solid-state laser.
We demonstrate that various optical bottle beams can be directly generated from a tightly focused end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser. By controlling the size of pump beam and intracavity aperture in a planoconcave cavity, we obtain well contrasting optical bottles with semiconfocal, 1/3-, and 1/5-degenerate cavity configurations. These beams result, respectively, from the superposition of the fundamental...

from a single spot on the sample surface. Depending on the homogeneity of the sample, the small spot size sampled with the tightly focused laser beam may miss the target material completely. A larger laser beam and sampling aperture can be used to acquire data from a larger spot on the sample surface, but as the aperture size is increased, resolution decreases and the high spectral resolution n...
متن کاملFirst-order strong-field QED processes in a tightly focused laser beam
In a previous article [Phys. Rev. Lett. 117, 213201 (2016)] we have determined the angular resolved and the total energy spectrum of a positron produced via nonlinear Breit-Wheeler pair production by a high-energy photon counterpropagating with respect to a tightly focused laser beam. Here, we first generalize the results in that article by including the possibility that the incoming photon is ...
متن کاملWakefield Induced Correlated Energy Spread and Emittance Growth at TTF FEL
An electron beam with a small energy spread (0.1%) and a small normalized emittance (2 mm.mrad) is required to drive a Free Electron Laser at the TESLA Test Facility (TTF) at DESY. During FEL operations, the longitudinal and transverse wakefields which are generated by vacuum components, principally by RF cavities, bellows and valves, will induce an additional energy spread and emittance growth...
متن کاملCalculation of the radiation trapping force for laser tweezers by use of generalized Lorenz-Mie theory. I. Localized model description of an on-axis tightly focused laser beam with spherical aberration.
Calculation of the radiation trapping force in laser tweezers by use of generalized Lorenz-Mie theory requires knowledge of the shape coefficients of the incident laser beam. The localized version of these coefficients has been developed and justified only for a moderately focused Gaussian beam polarized in the x direction and traveling in the positive z direction. Here the localized model is e...
